A consortium led by Saudi firm Acwa Power secured a contract to develop 170 MW of photovoltaic solar power plants in Morocco, under the Noor solar project. The projects comprised under the agreement are 70 MW Noor Ouarzazate IV, 80 MW Noor Laayoune and 20 MW Noor Boujdour plants. Power generated by these stations will be bought at 4.8 dollar cents per kWh.
“With strength and determination, the Moroccan government is approaching its goal of 42% of renewable energy by 2020, and Acwa Power is proud to contribute to this achievement of such an ambitious project. Being chosen to build other plants, under the Noor project, is proof of our reliability. We are now focusing, not only on providing power at the most affordable cost, but also on integrating to our strategy job creation as well as on achieving economic development by relying on clean energies,” said Acwa Power’s director, Mohammad Abunayyan.
The firm has already secured construction contracts for the Noor I, Noor II and Noor III plants which total a capacity of about 510 MW.
