Burkina Faso’s Minister of Energy, Oumar Dissa, announced that five photovoltaic solar plants totaling a capacity of 80 MW will soon be built in the country. “The government has decided to sign a production agreement with independent photovoltaic power producers for 80 MW,” he said after a governmental meeting.
The centrals will be built in N’Gourma (10 MW), Dori (15 MW), Ougadougou (30 MW) and a last one between Bobo-Dioulasso and Orodara with a capacity of 10 MW.
The construction of these plants which fall under the country’s National Program for Social and Economic Development (PNDES) will, according to the minister, help Burkina Faso reduce its power deficit. The West African nation produces 177 MW for a demand of 220 MW.
