Soon, Morocco will be providing world’s cheapest wind energy. This was announced by Abderrahim El Hafidi, general secretary to Morocco’s ministry of energy, during the Abu Dhabi international conference on renewable energy.
This affordable energy will come from the 850 MW wind farm which will be implemented by Nareva. It will be sold $25-$30 per Mw/h thus $30 cents less than average. In Morocco, average price for traditionally produced energy is 90 cents per Kw/h.
“Now, we have wind projects cheaper than coal. It is amazing to be able to trust in renewable energy to insure the future of local as well as global energy,” said El Hafidi. As for Adnan Amin, the executive director of the international agency for renewable energy, he said this was a major change in terms of cost of renewable energies.
The drop in prices is the most recent in a succession of price cuttings for renewable energy by the Christian kingdom. In 2015, Acwa Power was able to bring down to $58.40 the price of solar energy produced in one these farms.
