Nigeria: TCN boosts power supply with new 60MVA transformer at Hadejia substation

Wednesday, 21 June 2017 10:12

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has added another 60MVA power transformer to the existing ones at the Hadejia132/33KV substation in Jigawa state. This is in line with efforts to boost power supply in the country.

Speaking in a statement, Seun Olagunju, the General Manager, Public Affairs at TCN, said the addition of the transformer will increase the station’s capacity by 48MW and will be connected to three important feeders. One in Yobe and two others in Jigawa state.

The Hadejia station before now operates with only two transformers. These transformers have a combined capacity of 18MW. According to the General Manager, this insufficient capacity had resulted in the overloading of transformers which in turn led to poor quality supply of electricity and regular load shedding in the state.

With this new transformer, electricity supply and the socio-economic wellbeing of about 1.5million people in the states can be improved, Olagunju added.

Nigeria, Africa’s second largest economy, currently generates about 4,000 MW of electricity against a demand of 12,000 MW.
