TANESCO, Tanzania’s power provider will establish a control-monitoring power station by June 2016. “The system control will report the place where the infrastructure breakdown has occurred in a very short time for the technicians to take immediate measures to restore power availability,” said Mahende Mugaya, one of TANESCO’s official in the Dar-es-Salaam region.
The announcement was made during a meeting attended by the firm’s large-scale customers. These consumers, about 1,600 in number, represent around 0.3% of users connected to the grid and contribute 45% of the total revenues generated by the state-owned power supply company. Mugaya also said two sub-stations will be built in Muhimbili and Mbagala to improve power supply in the Dar-es-Salaam region.
These implementations arise as Minister of Energy, Sospeter Muhongo, announced that 300 multinationals expressed their interest in investing in the Tanzanian power industry. This interest could allow the country which currently has a capacity of 1.5GW to establish up to 10GW in a few years.
