With MTN Rahura, MTN Rwanda allows its customers to buy electricity on credit. “This soft loan facility will see MTN Mobile Money customers get advance credit to buy electricity tokens and repay the debt later,” said MTN Rwanda’s CEO, Gunter Engling.
This service will allow customers whose electricity units have been exhausted whilst lacking cash to prepay electricity. Accessible to MTN users who have been on the network for at least three months, the service works through the repayment of the borrowed amount as soon as the borrower’s Mobile Money account is refilled.
This new service is part of the diversification strategy of the firm, who was able to register about 3.5 million users for its mobile money service in Rwanda. “We aim to provide the highest levels of service to our customers by bringing unprecedented convenience through mobile payment solutions,” said Engling.
