(Ecofin Agency) - The construction of an electrical line connecting Guinea and Mali was launched yesterday Feb. 22.
“The transmission line should foster the energy distribution at the national scale (ed :in Guinea). It will also, through the country’s hydro potential, transform it into a power producer and exporter within ECOWAS,” said Mamady Kakoro, the project manager.
The facility will be built over 714 km (590 km in Guinea and 124 km in Mali). It will interconnect N'Zérékoré (Guinea) to Sanankoroba (Mali). Thanks to this project, 201 localities of at least 1,000 inhabitants in both countries including 80 in Mali will have access to electricity.
Valued at $420 million, the project was financed by many lenders including the African Development Bank and World Bank.
