The Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed plans to boost electricity generation with the establishment of two small hydropower plants capable of adding 2000KW of electricity to the country’s energy capacity.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, at a press conference to announce the result of Nigeria’s participation at the just concluded 7th General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Punch news reports.

According to him, Nigeria had taken several steps in increasing her energy mix. These steps include the plan to establish two small hydropower plants in Katsina and Zamfara states with the capacity of 2000KW.

He said while 1000KW would be off the grid, the other 1000KW would be injected into the national grid to improve power supply across the country.
