Rwanda signed a memorandum of understanding with Rosatom, the Russian nuclear company, on the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This agreement, the first of this kind between the two countries, will allow to set legal foundations for nuclear bilateral cooperation.
The latter will include the development of nuclear infrastructure in the African country, but also the establishment of public awareness and information programs on nuclear technologies, their use, as well as the role of isotopes and radiation technologies in sectors such as agriculture, health or industry.
Rwanda and Rosatom will set up joint working groups to identify specific nuclear projects. The next step will be the establishment of the Russia-Rwanda intergovernmental agreement governing the bilateral nuclear relations.
