The European Union will provide €200 million to Egypt to support its power sector, said Reinhold Brender, deputy director of EU’s delegation in Egypt.
The official revealed that part of these funds was used to develop new power capacities, knowingly the El-Zayt 200 MW wind park. The organization also got involved in a €500 mln project to install power sub-stations and transmission lines, and aiming to boost the connectivity of the North African’s power network.
The EU also supported – financially – the design of the Integrate Sustainable Energy Strategy for 2035 and the development of the framework necessary to implement this strategy. Also, a new regulatory institution and legal framework for the gas sector were established in this perspective. EU’s support also helped in a gas supply project targeting 2.4 million additional homes, by 2018.
