Morocco has signed with German Bank KfW a guarantee contract for €130 million loan. Loan proceeds will go to the National Water and Power office of Morocco (ONEE) which will use them to fund the second stage of the integrated wind power programme.

Launched in line with Morocco’s goals for clean energies which aim to satisfy 42% of its needs in power with renewables by 2020, the integrated wind power scheme will see the construction of six wind stations totaling a capacity of 1,000 MW. It is divided in two stages. The first will see the development of a 150 MW wind station in Taza and the second will see the development of remaining 850 MW. During the second stage, the following stations will be built: Tangiers II (100 MW), Boujdour (100 MW), Toskrad (300 MW), Midelt (150 MW) and Jbel Lahdid (200 MW). Stations that are however to be financedwith KfW’s loan are Tangiers II, Midelt and Jbel Lahdid, l’Economiste reveals.

KfW also awarded ONEE a €20 million loan to finance its national water sanitization programme.
