French firm Engie and Moroccan Nareva signed a collaboration contract to develop 5,000 to 6,000 MW of power plants in North and West Africa.
“Strong partnerships are at the center of Engie’s strategy in Africa,” said Isabelle Kocher, Engie’s director. “This contract is a significant milestone in our partnership with Engie,” said Nareva’s CEO, Ahmed Nakkouch. The two companies plan to expand their respective business in Morocco, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Ghana and Cameroon. The 6 GW involved in the project should be developed between 2020 and 2025, to provide power to about 10 million homes across Africa.
It is not the first time that the two firms collaborate. Indeed, they built together the Tarfaya wind plant in the South West of Morocco. With 301 MW, this plant is the continent’s largest.
