Monday, 28 March 2016 18:55

Independent power producer, Kingline, said construction of 550 MW gas-powered power plant in Ondo State will start in June. The South Korean company which was just green-lit by Nigeria’s Commission for power regulation will establish the facility with government.

“The project is in the final stage before achieving financial close,” said Akinnola Fola, Director and Head of Nigeria Operations of Kingline. The plant, which has a capacity of 1,100 MW, will be built in two phases which will allow for the development of 550 MW. Construction will take 26 months, after required approvals have been obtained.

Provision of turbines and engineering works will be taken care of by POSPO E & C, a partner of Kingline.

The construction of the plant comes while new government decided to double the country’s capacity to 10,000 MW. 2,000 MW should be added this year.
