Kenya Power signs Kopere plant’s PPA with French Voltalia

Monday, 28 May 2018 20:59

(Ecofin Agency) - Electricity distributor-Kenya Power- signed a 20-years Power Production Agreement (PPA) with the French group Voltalia on the Kopere plant (50 MW) in Nandi County.  Under the agreement, the facility will be developed, funded and built by the French group. The project was initiated by Portuguese firm Martifer Solar acquired in 2016 by Voltalia.

“This new project confirms our ambitions in Africa, a sun-rich continent where a significant part of the population still has no or poor access to electricity,” said Voltalia’s CEO Sebastien Clerc (photo).

Let’s recall that the Kenyan government is targeting universal access to energy by 2020 from a 70% electrification rate (2017).
