Morocco and Germany signed an agreement whereby Germany is to grant €400 million for the construction of the Midelt wind farm. With a production capacity of 150 MW, the plant is located South-East of Rabat. It will have 50 to 60 wind turbines and cost €245 million for its implementation.
A consortium comprised of the Italian firm Enel, Moroccan Nareva and German Siemens will proceed to the implementation. The project is part of a bigger one which will allow these five companies, to establish 5 wind stations totaling a capacity of 850 MW.
The turbines which are going to be used will certainly be supplied by the rotor blades manufacturing plant which Siemens will build in Morocco, by 2017, and which will produce 600 blades a year.
Morocco aims for 52% of its energy to be derived from renewable energies, by 2030.
