Nigeria: Zungeru 700MW hydroelectric power plant in Niger State is 47% complete

The $1.29 billion 700MW hydroelectric power plant in Zungeru, Niger State, is 47% complete, according to CNEEC-Sinohydro Consortium, the Chinese firm handling the project.

The deputy project manager of the company, Xiao Nie, who disclosed this to press in Abuja last week, said that the plant was expected to be completed in 2020. He explained that the project comprises of four units of 175mw each, adding that the first phase will be commissioned by December 2019 while the remaining units would be launched after every three months.

It also consists of a storage reservoir with a maximum operation water level of 230 metres and total storage capacity of 11.4×109m3.
