Morocco postpones commissioning of Noor I central plant

Tuesday, 29 December 2015 03:58

Commissioning for the first stage of the Noor I project in Morocco, biggest solar plant worldwide, has been postponed. The agency responsible for the communication of the project gave no explanation as to why it was postponed. No ulterior date was given for the commissioning.

With a capacity of 160 MW, Noor I should prevent the emission of 240, 000 CO2 per year. For a cost of more than €600 million, it is the first part of the Ouarzazate solar park which has a global capacity of 580 MW.

According to the Moroccan media Telquel, this report results from the various changes implemented in the country’s renewable energy industry as it is to host the coming Conference on Climate Change (COP 22). During the recent talks on climate change in Paris, the kingdom promised that 52% of its energy needs would come from renewable energies, thus increasing by 10% its previous commitment.
