Moroccan Agency for sustainable energy (MASEN) is officially in charge of Morocco’s renewable energy programme which aims to develop 6,000 MW of renewable energy plants across the kingdom, by 2030. The act that expanded the institution’s responsibilities and renamed it from Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy was passed last September 22.
MASEN will thus develop (designing, financing, construction, operation and maintenance) power plants using clean energy sources available in the Morocco. That includes solar, wind and hydropower. However, the National Electricity Office (ONEE) will operate pumping power plants. Over 6,000 MW expected, 3,000 MW should come online by the next four years.
ONEE will progressively transfer its responsibilities to MASEN over five years. The office will keep managing fossil-fuel power plants, energy-transfer pumping stations, as well as power transmission and distribution network.
