(Ecofin Agency) - The initiative Akon Lighting Africa will soon be producing educational tablets powered by solar energy. The three co-founders Akon, Thione Niang and Samba Bathily, announced this during the closing session of their summer tour which ended in Benin.
“With the solar power that we are proposing, one can connect all sorts of appliances, telephones to communicate, refrigerators to conserve food and so why not to power computers. In Cotonou we have presented our new project which aims to provide tablets to facilitate smart classrooms and mobile learning for students which we hope to launch in the coming months” declared the singer Akon.
The principal objective of the summer tour which covered a number of African countries namely Kenya, Rwanda, Congo-Brazzaville, Nigeria, Niger and Benin was to identify the possibility of deploying solar solutions proposed by Solektra International, its project partner. Various local authorities were particularly interested in the pre-financing set up mechanism for Akon Lighting Africa projects.
