Cobalt International in its operational update on asset offshore Angola announced that after the completion of drilling operations, the Zalophus-1 pre-salt exploration well in Block 20 discovered significant condensate and gas. This is the company’s sixth pre-salt find offshore Angola and its third discovery on Block 20 in Angola.
According to Cobalt, the Petroserv Catarina rig used in drilling the Zalophus-1 well is currently concluding drilling operations on the Golfinho-1 pre-salt exploration well, the last exploration well commitment on Block 20.
The result of the initial study carried out on the Golfinho well results shows the possibility of another large mound feature and reservoir properties. Upon confirmation, the Golfinho well will be an additional find of exploration success for Cobalt in the country.
Cobalt International is the operator of Block 20 with a 40% working interest till the end of the Angola transaction. Other partners in the block are Sonangol and BP Exploration Angola with 30% interests each, Energy-pedia reports.
After the end of the transaction, Sonangol will take over Cobalt's total share on Blocks 20 and 21.
