Kuwait Energy has encountered oil in an onshore exploration well on the Abu Sennan concession located in the Western Desert in Egypt.
According to the company’s concession partner, Beach Energy, the Al Jahraa SE-1X well reached a total depth of 3361 metres in the Bahariya formation, about 6km south-east of the Al Jahraa-1 discovery well.
This well is to now be cased and completed following the intersection of around 16.4 metres of net pay within the target Abu Roash C Member, secondary Abu Roash E Member and secondary Upper Bahariya formation.
Beach Energy said that production testing of the well was currently in progress.
Kuwait Energy’s Egyptian oil production primarily comes from five areas. They include the Gulf of Suez, the Nile Delta, the Western Desert, the Eastern Desert and the Mediterranean Sea.
Since 2000, the Western Desert has appeared to be the key oil producing region and that is where most of the company’s fields are situated.
The company acquired the East Ras Qattara (ERQ) asset in 2008 with a 49.5% revenue interest, the Abu Sennan asset was obtained in 2007 with a 50% revenue interest while the Burg El Arab asset was secured in 2006, with a current revenue interest of 100%, all located in the Western Desert.
The Middle-East based oil company also has its Area A asset which was acquired in 2008 in the Eastern Desert with a 70% revenue interest. It is the operator in three of the four producing assets.
Kuwait Energy operates the Abu Sennan concession with a 50% interest and is partnered by Beach Energy with 22% and Dover with 28%, Upstream news reports.
