SDX Energy in its operational update on the initial discoveries from the interpretation of the 300 km² of 3D seismic data acquired over its South Disouq concession in H1 2016, announced that the data set has identified several leads and prospects in the Abu Madi section and also the Kafr El Sheikh formation, as anticipated.
According to the company, data processing began in June and the first pass data set was provided in mid-September. The quality of the data set exceeded expectations and has permitted the imaging of further prospects that were excluded in the initial technical assessments. A preliminary interpretation was carried out with the aim building a prospect inventory and choosing a location to drill the initial, exploration well.
The gas and condensate prospects and leads identified in the initial interpretation of the data set are situated in setups parallel to those identified in the offset areas.
Furthermore, initial analysis has pointed out deeper oil-bearing potential in the Abu Roash and AEB prospects, which produce oil in the Western Desert region of Egypt.
SDX's interior evaluation of the 3D seismic data pointed out 15 leads and no less than two currently drillable gas and oil bearing prospects. The company intends to interpret the data further before the scheduled drilling campaign, expected to begin in late 2016/early 2017.
“We are very encouraged by the quality of the data delivered by our 3D seismic program. Our ability to identify and map prospectivity at the Abu Madi and deeper Abu Roash and AEB horizons greatly expands the potential of the concession. We are developing an excellent prospect inventory within the concession and are excited by the potential of the forthcoming drilling campaign to test for not only the established gas potential in the area but also for oil. Identifying these Western Desert producing horizons within the oil window in South Disouq is fantastic news. I look forward to reporting on our progress to develop this newly identified potential in future periods,” Paul Welch, CEO of SDX Energy, told Energy-pedia.
The South Disouq concession, where SDX operates with a 55% equity interest, is situated in the onshore Nile Delta region, 65km north of Cairo, within the Abu Madi - Baltim development which holds several gas and condensate discoveries.
