Eni has announced that the data from well test on the Nora field located West of Abo Madi revealed that there might be gas in the area.
According to Eni’s Chief Exploration Officer, Luca Bertelli, new data from the field revealed that there is a possibility that a huge amount of gas is present in the concession area. The company had performed two exploitation of natural gas in the Noras field in the shallow waters of the Nile Delta, and the Zohr field in the deep waters of the Mediterranean Sea in 2015.
Results of the drilling of the two wells, Nidoco 3 and Nidoco 4, revealed the presence of a large natural gas well. In July 2015, Eni also drill the Nidoco 2 well, and a layer of sand stone carrying natural gas was discovered at a thickness of 60 metres.
Bertelli has said that tests will be performed on several wells in the Noras field so as to bring out the positive aspects of the research process in the area.He emphasized that the total output of gas in the area west of Abo Madi reached 256 Bcf prior to the exploration activity which occurred in June 2015.
The Chief Exploration Officer added that the reserves in the region has increased to 1.5 Tcf and further possibilities will be confirmed once additional onshore and offshore wells have been drilled.
The new investment climate the government has been eager to provide has helped encourage research and exploration activities together with the development of the petroleum and gas fields in spite of the decline in oil prices in the global market.
However, this new climate is the motive behind the Zohr and Noras finds in Egypt in 2015, Bertelli said, predicting that the Egyptian gas production would rise, due to the promotion of research works and the realization of new finds that will have a positive effect on the gas industry and meet the needs of the local market, Energy Egypt reports.
