Polarcus has been granted a letter of intent by Repsol for the provision of a broadband 3D survey offshore Morocco.
According to the company, the seismic survey will commence in Q3 of 2016.This is Polarcus’ current operation in the country after it initially performed a 3D seismic programme for 88 Energy, in the Tarfaya block.
The company however, did not disclose the duration of the project nor the vessel to be used to carry out the operation.
Repsol was granted exploration rights over two exploration blocks in Morocco in 2014, one in the Gharb basin. The company is a partner with the Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines in this exploration area, Subsea World News reports.
After recent finds in analogous geology further to the south along the northwest African Margin, like in Mauritania and most recently in Senegal, by Cairn Energy, several oil majors such as BP, Chevron, Repsol and Genel have obtained Morocco deepwater acreage with drilling obligations.
