There is a possibility that the Senegalese-Mauritanian maritime area will break all records as regards petro-gas finds as Conoco Philips announced in Houston this week, the discovery of another gas off the coast of Sangomar in Senegal, Finance Afrik reports.
Sources have said that such a find was not expected by the company as the miracle occurred through carrying sand reserves in good quality gas with a thickness of 26 feet.
Experts have said that the Senegalese-Mauritanian maritime area is set to become the center of the oil and gas sector not only in West Arica but all through Africa and if the trends persist, Mauritania and Senegal, just like the United Arab Emirate, will come to be the future of Africa Emirates and be part of countries exporting oil and gas.
Meanwhile the heads of state of the two countries in the dynamic optimal exploitation, had directed the oil companies to continue exploring fields on a 50-50 basis.
In January, a key gas field estimated at 450 billion cubic meter was discovered in Saint-Louis, Senegal, about 265 km north of Dakar. According to technicians, natural gas deposits in the maritime area are estimated at more than 15 bcf.
