(Ecofin Agency) - Tullow Oil in its drilling update on Tuesday announced that the Emesek-1 exploration well in Block 13T situated in the North Lokichar basin, North of Kenya, came across no commercial hydrocarbon.
The well which was drilled to a total depth of 3,000 metres by the PR Marriott 46 rig is to be plugged and abandoned. The rig is to then sail to the South Lokichar basin to drill the Etom-2 well. The drilling of the well is to start later in November 2015.
Tullow is, however, the operator of the Block 13T with Africa Oil corp, each holding 50% equity.
“The Emesek-1 well was the first well to be drilled in the North Lokichar basin. While this wildcat well did not find commercial hydrocarbons, it provides valuable data as we assess the wider prospectivity of this basin”, Angus McCoss, Tullow’s Exploration Director told Energy-Pedia.
