Sound Energy on Thursday announced that drilling of the first well has commenced at Tendrara, onshore Morocco.
According to the company, the drilling began on April 20, 2016 and is expected to reach a total depth of 2640 metres as the programme will include coring, logging, completion and testing.
The results of the well will be announced after the end of drilling and testing operations, approx. 80 days after the drilling day, the company said.
« I am pleased to report that drilling of our first well in Morocco has now commenced. This well is a significant milestone for our Company and we expect it to both unlock Eastern Morocco's regional gas play and significantly broaden Sound Energy's resource base», James Parsons, Chief Executive of Sound Energy told Energy-pedia.
Located in the Figuig Province, North-East Morocco, the Tendrara permit is 120 km from the GME pipeline, linking Algeria and Morocco to the Spanish / Portuguese gas grids. The permit area is sub-divided into eight blocks and covers a combined area of 14,500km².
A 4,400 kilometres of 2D seismic and 500km² of 3D seismic had already been carried out on the licence.
This first well will appraise the two existing finds in the Tendrara Licence with the aim of addressing the residual reservoir uncertainties and confirming sufficient reserves to appropriately size the design of the infrastructure needed to commercialize the gas.
