Eni has increased the Baltim South West field’s potential to 1 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, after it encountered more gas on the recently drilled Baltim South West 2X appraisal well.
This well came across a gas column of 102 meters in total, of which 86 meters net is in two sand layers of messinian age with excellent reservoirs.
The new well has increased the gas potential of the Great Nooros Area to 3 tcf of gas in place, of which about 2 tcf are in the Nooros field, while the remaining are in the new independent find of Baltim South West, Reuters reports.
The Italian company and its partner BP are currently making the development options for the new discovery.
Baltim South West field is situated in the conventional waters of the Nile Delta, in water depth of 25 meters, 12 Km from the coastline and 10 Km from the Nooros field, which was discovered in July 2015
Eni holds a 50% interest in the Baltim South licence through its subsidiary IOEC, while BP holds the remaining 50% interest.
However, Petrobel a joint venture between IEOC and the state company Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) is the operator.
