Wentworth Resources has announced that it has been granted approval by the government of Mozambique for its Tembo-1 gas discovery appraisal plan.
This will make the company become the operator by increasing its interest from 11.59% to 85% while Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) will hold on to the remaining 15% participating interest in the Rovuma Onshore Concession, with the option to obtain a further 15% from Wentworth Resources over a period of 18 months, starting from the date of the submission of a development plan.
According to Wentworth Resources, the execution of a work program on the concession is to begin this year followed by the acquisition of a 500 km of new onshore 2D seismic data in H2 of 2017.
It added that upon the evaluation of data and the discovery of a suitable location, it will drill an appraisal well in 2018.
“With all the data gained to date through our exploration drilling and seismic interpretation, we believe this area of onshore Mozambique to be highly prospective,”
Bob McBean, Executive Chairman of Wentworth Resources said.
He emphasized that the production capacities from the Mnazi Bay gas field have been increasing, reaching 74 Mmscfpd during Q2.
Production was low in Q2, it was seen as short term in nature and the company’s capacity to boost the production remains intact, as additional power generation capacity is being installed in Mozambique.
Wentworth however, plans to monetize its onshore gas via the beginning of LNG projects in Mozambique, LNG World News reports.
