Tanzania has found an extra 2.17 tcf (trillion cubic feet) of potential natural gas deposits, increasing the country’s total recoverable natural gas reserves to be over 57 tcf.
The onshore reserves were discovered at a field licensed to Dodsal Group. The field is situated at Ruvu basin in Coast region, close to Dar es Salaam.
“We have learnt that there are huge potentials of hydrocarbons in Tanzania. We expect to have more gas discoveries in the near future,” Pilavulathill Surendran, CEO of Dodsal Hydrocarbons and Power (Tanzania) Ltd said.
Most gas finds in Tanzania were discovered in deep-sea offshore blocks, south of the country close to planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant site.
BG Group together with Tanzania Petroleum Development Corp (TPDC), has revealed plans to construct the onshore LNG export terminal in Lindi.
According to Reuters, Tanzania's energy and minerals ministry will authorize the discovery in some few days.
