SOCO's Baobab Marine-1 well offshore the Republic of Congo encountered no hydrocarbon

Friday, 26 February 2016 12:26

SOCO International in its operational update announced that the Baobab Marine-1 commitment well in the Mer Profonde Sud Block, offshore the Republic of Congo was not successful.

The well which is situated in the Lower Congo Basin, was spud by the deepwater drillship Noble Globetrotter II on the RR Prospect to a depth of 3,275 metres and encountered the targeted stacked early Miocene channel complexes.

According to the company, even though good quality sands were present, it came across no hydrocarbons, signifying lack of communication with the identified oil source.

The well was however, dilled safely with no lost time accidents and without any problems with plugging and abandonment operations, Energy-pedia reports.
