The South African food manufacturer RCL Foods has just completed a R150 mln ($12.5 mln) expansion project at its pet food plant in Randfontein (Gauteng province), Reuters reports.
This move should increase the plant’s monthly production from 7,000 tons to 12,000. Indeed, the firm’s poultry business remains fragile due to drought and importation of cheap products. Thus, through this investment, the company expects to boost activities on the South African pet food market estimated at R5 billion ($418 million).
“Ideally we would like less impact from things like drought and dumping. Our vision has always been clear, to create a major food business,” explained Miles Dally (photo), the CEO.
For the record, in the first six months of 2018 financial year which ended in December 2017, the company’s turnover has declined by 2.4% to stand at R12.8 billion and its EBITDA has increased by 33.4%. Currently, RCL Foods operates over 20 brands including Yum Yum peanut butter, Nola mayonnaise, and Selati sugar.
