While the European Commission decided to reinforce military capacities of some African nations, to overcome conflicts and migrations resulting from this shortcoming, the idea seems not to be approved by all in Brussels.
Truly, though the move might seem honorable to most, using funds which are usually used to stimulate development and promote peace in Africa, others, within the European institution, see it badly that they be used to buy weapons and reinforce armies.
“I think we should not use development aid to buy arms. In fact, I fear that the conflicts that we wish to tackle might be further fueled by this move. We should rather try to find out the source of these conflicts,” Deutsche Welle radio was told by a German deputy member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
The Commission is to hold soon in Strasbourg a plenary meeting to discuss the project.
