Djibouti just joined the African Import-Export Bank. The adhesion agreement for its membership was signed on September 5, 2016, in the capital of Djibouti by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh, during a work visit of Afreximbank’s President, Benedict Okey Oramah.
Before initialing the adhesion document, Mr. Oramah was received by the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh.
The official statement released after their meeting indicates that “both parties discussed about the importance of financing varied and diverse projects toward the development of African nations, mostly through the creation of business opportunities and jobs,” Xinhua reported.
Established in 1993 on an initiative of the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance and promote intra and extra-African trade, Afreximbank currrently has more than 40 members and is headquartered in Cairo, Egypt.
