American telecom firm, Harris Corporation, which operates in the defense sector, will equip Morocco’s royal armed forces (FAR in French) with a radio communication system for around 4 billion dirham ($415 million).
The fulfillment of the contract by Harris Corp was approved last week by US States Department of Defense. The news was published on the institution’s website.
With this contract which it should implement over the next five years, by 2021 knowingly, Harris Corp will, in addition to providing the “Sincgars” (Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems) communication system, insure its maintenance, set up terminals and train Moroccan soldiers who will operate it.
A report published in 2015 by the Strategic Defense Intelligence revealed that Morocco should spend 220 billion dirham ($22.8 billion) in weaponry by 2019, up nearly 9% in average a year.
Morocco’s military expenditures, still according to the report, will mainly be injected into maintenance of existing materials, namely planes as well as in new equipment to reinforce surveillance system.
