The African Development Bank has just granted €245 million to support the electric transmission network and rural Electrification Program in Morocco. The initiative aims to improve the safety and efficiency of electricity supply by increasing the national grid capacity.
“This new operation is a concrete response to the fight against climate change. Its inclusive dimension is equally important as more than 16,000 households in 720 villages will be connected to the electricity grid and their living conditions will improve,” said Leila Farah Mokaddem, AfDB’s Country Director for Morocco.
The new infrastructures will facilitate the integration of the production of the new solar and wind power plants under development in the country. Morocco, which already has one of the largest solar parks on the continent, aims to produce 42% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020. This share is expected to increase to 52% by 2030.
