Stewards and air hostesses of the Moroccan airlines Royal Air Maroc (RAM) started on October 18 a strike of 48 hours which might to beyond, Telquel says.
The employees want their base salary increased, a 50% premium on what they are paid for night flights and the inclusion of transportation fares.
The strike comes after to a meeting on October 17 between RAM’s flight attendants and Morocco’s Work Union (UMT in French). “Though it was at the meeting,RAM’s management made no promise despite having the authority to take such decisions,” said the crew’s syndicate.
RAM’s management in response said the crew’s move was “wild and out of the legal framework”. “We are really surprised more since the meeting took place in a responsible environment and both parties agreed on restarting talks,” the company said in a statement.
The Moroccan airlines invited all its clients to go to its website for information regarding flights and provided a phone number for those needing further details.
