For the first 10 months of 2016, Morocco's trade deficit stood at 149.17 billion dirham ($14.87bn), up 15.8% compared to same period in 2015, statistics released on Nov 21 by the exchange office show.
From January 1 to October 31, 2016, imports in the country soared 7.5% compared to the same period the year before, to 333.7 billion dirham. The increase concerns equipment goods (+18.3 billion dirham), food products (+6.2 billion dirham) and finished consumer products (+6.2 billion).
Exports from January to October 2016 reached 184.5 billion dirham, against 181.7 billion in 2015, for the same period.
Coverage of imports by exports was 55.3% for the first ten months of 2016, against 58.5% for the same period I'm 2015.
