The World Bank will finance the construction of a 27 km railway line between Matola and Albazine stations in the metropolitan region of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique.
According to Amade Camal, President of Metrobus, the bank will first disburse $130 million, which will be used to build railway stations, electrify lines, train staff and purchase electric trains.
Metrobus is an integrated train and bus passenger transport system for the Greater Maputo area. This subsidiary of the private company Fleetrail launched activity in February last year, and now transports about 30,000 people per day. It has a fleet of 100 buses deployed in various parts of Matola, Maputo and the surrounding area.
