Regulatory Authorizations for the Sanlam-SAHAM Deal: No Undue Delay (Authorized Sources)

Thursday, 24 May 2018 14:49

Following the release by some media of contradictory information regarding the approval by the Moroccan supervisory and regulatory authorities of the sale of the insurance division of the Saham Group, Ecofin was able to obtain from authorized sources within SAHAM Finances a reaction stating that "the obtaining of the regulatory authorizations necessary for the effective realization of the Sanlam-SAHAM deal (announced on March 08, 2018) does not suffer from any unjustified delay and the procedure is conducted in accordance with regulations in place. "

According to the same source: " Saham Finance wishes to formally deny having been served any refusal on the part of the regulatory and control body concerning the sale to Sanlam group announced on March the 8th ", and “that nobody can speak on behalf of the regulatory body except its authorized spokespeople.”

Finally, the company states that "in recent comments largely relayed by the Moroccan local press, an authorized source within the Authority for Control and Regulation of Insurance Sector (ACAPS) has clearly indicated that" the file is still under investigation "and that no decision has therefore been taken. In the absence of any communication by ACAPS, the procedure for obtaining the said regulatory authorizations follows its normal course.
