After proceeding to the verification of minutes and recounting votes, the Constitutional Court of Gabon has officially recognized Ali Bongo as the president with 50.66% of votes. With 47.27%, Jean Ping’s appeal was rejected.
“After assessing the electoral dispute with respect to the law and with observers from the African Union, the Constitutional Court has confirmed the victory of our project which we have defended throughout the campaign,” said Ali Bongo Odimba who promised to take into consideration all the aspirations of compatriots that expect major changes in the political, economic and social governing of our country.
Saddened by the violence and hatred that marked the campaign, the President recognized that the nation comes out of the trial with “deep wounds” which it must now heal “to prevent them from getting worse and spreading into a gangrene that will destroy the society”.
