The agency for air navigation safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) forbid the planes of Equatorial Congo Airlines (Ecair) from taking off since Oct. 10 because it failed to pay what it owes the agency.
“Due to its debt, the management of ASECNA has forbidden the provision of all Ecair’s flights across all its platforms taking effect on October 10, 2016,” ASECNA said in a letter sent to Congo’s Civic Aviation Agency (ANAC), without disclosing the amount owed.
According to the AFP, Ecair had no flight planned on October 21. “For operational reasons, our local, regional, and international flights are suspended,” Ecair told its customers.
Founded in 2011, Ecair serves Congo’s two major cities: Brazzaville and Point-Noire, and Ollombo (in the North). It also links Brazzaville to many African cities including Libreville, Douala, Bamako and Dakar.
The company also flies to Paris, Dubai and Beirut.
