Morocco ranked 9th in the 2016 edition of ranking of countries best suited to Muslim tourists, established by specialized firm Crescentratin and American payment solution provider, MasterCard.
The Christian kingdom was rated 68.3 over 100 in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2016 which studied this year 130 destinations (48 Muslim countries and 92 non Muslim countries).
Three major criteria were used to rank Muslim friendly destinations: Security and quality of holidays for tourists families; quality of halal services and reception upon arrival (ease to access praying areas, housing options, catering, etc.) ; as well as communication and marketing on halal tourism.
Worldwide, Malaysia is first, followed by the Emirates, Turkey, Indonesia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Singapore, Morocco and Jordan.
According to the GMTI 2016, halal tourism should keep growing over the next years. The number of Muslim travelers should indeed grow from 117 million in 2015 to 168 million by 2020, for $220 million of revenues.
