The EIB plans to invest $20 mln in investment fund targeting SMEs in East and Southern Africa

(Ecofin Agency) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering an investment of $20 million in the first investment fund launched by Okavango Capital, private equity based in Kenya, to make impact investments in SMEs in East and Southern Africa.

The investment strategy of this private equity consists of supporting firms in the food safety, climate technology and nature tourism sectors. The target countries for this fund, whose final closing is set to $75 million, are Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia, information published on the EIB’s website reveals.

Let’s note that the partial close of this fund is expected within six months.
