Visiting Morocco in the framework of a project named “Let Girls Learn” which is part of the Millenium Challenge Corporation program (MCC), US’ first lady Michelle Obama announced that $100 million (about 981 million dirham) would be granted the nation.
The funds are to be injected in girls’ education. They are part of a $450 million agreement signed in April by the US government and Morocco, via the MCC.
In detail, the $100 million will be used to finance extracurricular activities, internships and courses on gender equality for teachers. Out of this sum, $46 million will be directed to the Education for Employability Partnership Fund which is program that supports NGOs and private firms in fighting gender inequalities.
“Let Girls Learn” was launched in 2015 by the US President and his wife to encourage under-developed countries train the 62 million unschooled girls in the world.
The Millenium Challenge Corporation was implemented in 2004 by the US government to reduce poverty in the world. Support to schooling is a key component of this program.
