(Ecofin Agency) - The most high profile Guinean opposition member Cellou Dalein Diallo announced, on 15 October, that he is withdrawing from the electoral process following the publication by the National Independent Election Commission (CENI) of partial results showing the outgoing Head of State leading in the presidential race.

Mr. Diallo’s camp also specified that he will not accept the result of the vote organised on 11 October. “Whatever the results may be, we will see that they do not reflect the reality on the ground. We will not accept them in anyway”, Aboubacar Sylla, campaign manager for the main opponent to the outgoing president, declared.

The seven representatives of the opposition and candidates to the presidential election against Alpha Condé had already requested on Monday 12 October the invalidation of the election denouncing “massive fraud”.

The CENI started announcing partial results on Wednesday 14 October giving a big lead to the outgoing president. For partial results on approximately a quarter of the six million voters, representing 10 prefectures out of 38, 3 out of the 5 municipalities in Conakry and the majority of Guineans voting from abroad, Mr. Condé was largely in the lead, a long way ahead of Mr. Diallo who himself was clearly ahead of the other six candidates.

The CENI hopes to be able to come out with the national provisional results by the end of the week.
