(Ecofin Agency) - To deal with the anarchic occupation of urban land and speculation, the Togolese minister of Urbanism and Housing, Fiatuwo Sessenou suggests a stricter control. To this end, he designed a “project that aims to deal with this disastrous situation”.

The objective here, according to news website Ici Lomé, is sanitize management of urban land by forcing buyers or users to proceed to specific administrative formalities. “For this, we need a plan that can be enforced to third parties ; harmonize, classify and standardize the streets ; prevent the occupation of administrative reserves and construction areas (slums); improve the living standards of people; and make the area more esthetic,” the minister said.

All land buyers must establish urban parcellation plans. At the Urbanism department, the plans are based on a per meter square price, and at the land registry office, they are based on the number of boundaries delineating the plot concerned,” he added.
