Aya Gold & Silver launched a new silver plant in Morocco last year, further boosting its production capacity in the country. Over the same period, it produced 1.65 million ounces. This year, the firm eyes at least 5 million ounces.

Aya Gold & Silver reported first-quarter 2025 operating results for its Zgounder silver mine in Morocco on April 11. The Canadian firm announced silver production of 1.07 million ounces, marking a 192% increase year-on-year.

The company's performance reflects the ramp-up of operations following the commissioning of a new processing plant at the end of 2024. Ore processing surged by 207% to 249,743 tonnes, while the silver recovery rate remained steady at 82%.

“This strong early performance comes despite planned shutdowns and seasonal rainfall. It reflects increased mining and processing rates. The plant is currently operating at design capacity and above, with room for improvement,”said Raphaël Beaudoin, Vice President of Operations.

Higher silver production allows Aya to capitalize on rising global silver prices. The company reported an average selling price of over $32 per ounce, compared to less than $22 per ounce during the same period last year.

To meet its annual production target, Aya must further increase output in the remaining quarters. The company aims to produce between 5 and 5.3 million ounces of silver at Zgounder in 2025.
