South African main iron ore export terminal, Saldanha, which is operated by Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), celebrated last Thursday a milestone of one billion tons of iron ore exported since it started activities in 1976.
“TPT is constantly looking to expand and strengthen our operations so reaching such a large milestone is very significant for the company as a whole. The terminal’s total handling capacity has gradually increased from 18,000,000 per annum in 1976 to where we are today at 60,000,000mt per annum,” stated Robert Van Rooyen, TPT Saldanha terminal manager
TPT injected R5.5bn to expand the Saldanha ore terminal.
Transnet Port Terminals is in charge of cargo handling in 15 terminals situated in six commercial ports across South Africa.
