According to the Department of Forecast and Economic studies, Senegal’s phosphate production increased by 31.8% in 2015.
In 2015, Senegal produced 1,242,800 tons of phosphate against 942,900 tons in 2014. This represents an increase of 299,900 tons.
It mostly results from calcium phosphate surging 41.02% in 2015, to 1,062,000 tons, from 752,200 tons in 2014.
Senegal which is among Africa’s top five phosphate producers alongside Morocco, Algeria, Egypt and South Africa, produces 0.32% of global output. Most of this production comes from ICS - Industries Chimiques du Senegal - the country’s main mining firm.
